Aberavon Quins 15 Loughor 9
AFTER a hard-fought game which exploded into violent scenes in the closing moments, the Quins ran out winners by 15 points to nine.
Both sides were exasperated by referee Iwan Williams’s decisions, which ruined the game as a spectacle.
It was the sure boot of Marc Sheppard which secured the Quins’ win after solid work from the pack. It was the normal hard graft from Cox, Chris Jones and No 8 Dan Webb, allied to the front row of Hayden, Davies and Diaz, that kept the Quins ahead of the game.
Loughor were hampered by injuries and some mysterious yellow cards, which affected both sides, and one red card for the visitors.
There were encouraging moments for the Quins, especially from veteran winger Jamie Lean, who ran and tackled strongly. Youth product Marcus Francis contributed much until injury forced him off, and hooker Dan Morgan, who had been used recently as an emergency tight head, joined the fray with relish.
The points were shared as penalties, with five from Quins full back Marc Sheppard and three from Loughor fly half Andrew Williams. Sheppard was named sponsor’s man of the match.
