Owen Sheers: could have been a rugby player

Full name: Owen Glyn Sheers
Age: 36
Star sign: Virgo
Job title: Ooh, um, I’ll say Poet and Author
Role in The Passion: Scriptwriter. Oh you want more? Well I’m helping Michael Sheen and Bill Mitchell to tell the story in the best way we can, responding to what they need from the story, supplying dialogue, lyrics for songs, text for flyers, slogans. Basically, if things need to be written, they ask me. Oh, and I’ve been doing community workshops for the legion chorus, too.
If I hadn’t been a poet and author, I’d love to have been: a professional rugby player. It’s only recently I’ve realised it’ll never be…
Favourite thing about Port Talbot: The beach – I come running here. I love it.
Least favourite thing about Port Talbot: The high CO2 emissions from the works
What are you reading at the moment? Reading! I don’t have time to read, except drafts of the script! But I’m carrying round The Water Table by Philip Gross, and trying to get time to read The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver.
When’s the last time you cried? Honestly, watching Di Botcher playing Michael Sheen’s character’s mother – she really did make me cry.
What bit of The Passion can’t you wait for people to see? All of it!
What’s your favourite bit of Port Talbot? Sandfields Social and Labour Club – it’s all decked out like a regular 70’s crooner’s palace
What’s been the most challenging thing about working on The Passion? The scale of it
Is there life after The Passion? Ha ha! Brilliant question. Well, if you listen to the story, apparently so.
